What we collect

Name, email, phone (account). Payment info (processed by Stripe — Velise never stores full card details). Pickup and destination addresses.

Ride preferences: temperature, music, greeting style, water, seat position — stored to enhance experience.

Device info + IP (security). Ratings and reviews. GPS location during active rides — driver only, deleted immediately after ride completes, never stored historically.

Push-notification tokens, if you enable push notifications, so we can send ride and account alerts to your device. Business and tax profile details for business bookings — legal name, tax identification number, and billing address — used to issue compliant invoices.

Operator & applicant information

If you apply to drive on Velise as an operator, we collect the information needed to verify your eligibility and operate the marketplace: business details, proof of insurance, vehicle registration and safety documents, driver licences, GST/HST numbers, the names and phone numbers of your drivers, and vehicle photos.

We use this information to confirm that operators meet our platform requirements and to run the marketplace. We retain it for the duration of the business relationship and for as long as required to meet our legal and tax obligations, after which it is deleted.

Background & driving-record checks

Before an operator or chauffeur is approved to drive on Velise, we verify their eligibility through background checks, driving-record checks, and document verification (licence, insurance, vehicle registration, and safety documents). Where these checks are run by a third-party screening provider, only the information needed to perform them is shared, and results are retained for as long as the operator relationship lasts and as required by law.

These checks are a verification step, not a certification or guarantee of safety. Passing them does not warrant that any particular ride will be safe.

How we use your preferences

Preferences are shared with your operator before each ride so everything is ready when you arrive. This data is not used for advertising, not sold to third parties. Velise uses your preferences to enhance your experience — not to make guarantees about your ride.

Third-party AI tools

Velise uses third-party AI tools including Anthropic Claude and OpenAI ChatGPT to assist with platform development and operations. These tools only process information that is manually shared with them by the Velise team for operational purposes. They do not have direct access to the Velise database or customer accounts. Personal information is never intentionally shared with these tools. When AI tools are used for support or operational purposes, data is anonymised before being shared.

Who we share with

Your operator (first name, pickup, preferences — for your booking only). Stripe (payments). Twilio (SMS — phone number only). Resend (emails — email only). Mapbox (GPS during active rides — deleted after). Sentry (error monitoring — IP, device, and error data to diagnose crashes).

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.

Where your data is processed

Some of the service providers we rely on — including Stripe, Twilio, Resend, Sentry, and Mapbox — process data on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States. As a result, your information may be stored or processed abroad and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. By using Velise, you consent to this cross-border processing (PIPEDA disclosure).

GPS and location

Live driver GPS is collected during active rides, updated every 30 seconds, and shown only to the customer of that specific booking so they can track their ride in progress. This live view is not shared with anyone else.

Separately, we keep GPS snapshots tied to a booking as ride records — see “Location data & records” below for how long we retain them and why.

Location data & records

During a booking we collect precise GPS location from both the rider’s and the chauffeur’s devices. We use it to match and track the ride, to confirm arrival and pickup, and to adjudicate cancellations, no-shows, and delay claims (for example, checking whether a chauffeur actually went en route). GPS snapshots are recorded on the booking, and — where an incident is filed — on the related safety event or dispute record.

We also use this location and ride data as evidence in safety incidents and payment disputes. If a customer disputes a charge with their bank (a chargeback), we may automatically compile and share the relevant ride records — including GPS snapshots, timestamps, and trip details — with our payment processor Stripe and the card networks to contest that dispute.

Because this data is dispute, safety, and tax evidence, we do not delete it at the end of the ride. We retain the location and ride records tied to a booking for as long as needed to resolve any dispute, safety, or misconduct matter and to meet our legal and tax obligations (booking records are kept for 7 years), after which it is deleted.

Report evidence

When you file a report or dispute — such as a no-show, a safety or misconduct report, a lost-item claim, or a cancellation dispute — any evidence you submit (photos, screenshots, GPS records, and written statements) is stored by Velise. We may share it with the other party to the dispute and with our reviewers so the matter can be investigated and resolved. This evidence is retained until the matter is resolved and for as long as required by law, after which it is deleted.

Your PIPEDA rights

Access your data. Correct inaccurate data. Withdraw consent. File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Data retention

Booking records retained 7 years (tax/legal). Ride preferences retained until you delete them. The live GPS view ends when the ride completes; GPS snapshots tied to a booking are kept as ride records — see “Location data & records”.

Marketing email

If you consent to marketing email, you can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click unsubscribe link included in every marketing message. Unsubscribing stops marketing email only; you will still receive transactional messages you need, such as booking receipts and security alerts.

Accessibility

Velise is committed to being usable by everyone. We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and toward accessibility aligned with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

If you encounter a barrier to accessibility anywhere in Velise, please tell us so we can fix it — email [email protected] or [email protected]. We treat accessibility reports as a priority.
